Impact Testing

The requirement for impact testing on low voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies has now been identified as a further test that can be performed following the release of Edition 2 of IEC 61439-2 (although, not specified as a requirement). This is, however, identified as a requirement in the draft of IEC 61439-3.

These tests are performed against the requirements of IEC 62262 to determine the strength of an enclosure against the force of an impact. These impact tests, or IK tests as they are referred to, determine the method and force with which the enclosure or product may be struck. At kA Testing Facility we have invested in the equipment needed to perform these tests from IK05 to IK10,  IK10 being the largest of these with an impact force of 20 joules.

If you have a requirement for impact testing up to IK10, either as part of IEC 61439 or as a stand-alone test, please contact us.
